Q: How were you inspired to start your business?

Aged 51, I found myself at a huge crossroads in my life, when I took early retirement from the Civil Service where I had worked to develop career information and advice services for adults. I found I had no idea what to do next! I had recently started to attend a spiritual development group, and decided to move in a brand-new direction. I embarked on a course in Angel Card reading, a process where interpretation of the cards helps provide uplifting messages. I was motivated by the way in which the cards helped people to feel better about their lives. I realised that many women want activities to be accessible and online, and felt the easiest way to reach busy women was via their smart-phones. With the help of a local company, Kulestar, the Believe Oracle Cards app was born.

I also met many inspirational women at networking events. I was very interested in both the self-publishing process and bringing together true-life stories to help women to believe in themselves at times of change. This led to the creation of two anthologies of short stories by different women on the topic of self-belief, and last year, I hosted a 2-day national workshop on the same subject.

Q: How much do you love what you do?

I love the flexibility to create new products, and it is a great feeling when someone tells me that they are getting benefit from using my app and reading my books. It is amazing to be able to help other women who have found themselves in a similar situation to where I was. I particularly loved it recently when a friend who had left the Civil Service at the same time as me published her first book, having started the process at my event last year. I particularly enjoy seeing women like myself, who are in their fifties, moving in new and rewarding directions.

Q: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?

Believe in your inner strength and wisdom, and trust that you will see this through.

Q: Tell us how your business inspires your customers!

Designed for women who are at a crossroads in life, the Believe Oracle Card app consists of 54 uplifting cards, with short, encouraging messages to help build confidence, overcome fears and inspire change. My books help women recognise they are not alone, and provide great tried and tested hints and tips that have worked for other women who have faced life changes.

Q: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?

Often my clients are looking for the confidence and self-belief to keep going. One business owner recently did a card reading using the believe cards that led her to start a process of recognising that she needed to do some work on keeping her heart soft and open. Another client found encouragement to keep going with writing her book.

Q: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?

I think that inspiration can come from almost any place… for me it can be when writing the morning pages, driving in my car with music on – it may sound strange, but I often see interesting signs, symbols and messages on lorries or buses, even hearing a particular word or phrase might spark something. I also enjoy attending a variety of events and workshops. I wrote some of the poems in my book I Am Unique, for example, when attending workshops on the topic of gratitude using art and words.

Q: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?

My next steps are to write another book, about writing and publishing a book! I am also looking to hold another event on this topic.
