Q: How were you inspired to start your business?

JG: I knew Ron a little through my husband’s links with a classic car club. In due course, discovering that Ron and I had an unexpectedly strong ‘connection’, we commenced exchanging emails. From time to time we discussed subtle energies and healing (which were both relatively new to me), and then Ron introduced me to the Celestine Prophecy series of books, by James Redfield.
In November 2011, I mentioned a scene I kept ‘seeing’ in my mind: a stone circle wreathed in a mysterious mist; a young woman making her way toward it, but nothing in mind beyond that … At the same time, I also reaffirmed my long-held desire to ‘be a novelist’. I had recently been made redundant but my focus at that time was on my online Reiki treatment and attunements business.
Ron encouraged me to start writing the scene I pictured (the first lines of The Cordello Quest are Ron’s!) and I hammered out Chapter 1 of The Cordello Quest that same evening, writing purely from instinct. We ended up writing the first draft within five months, then realised we had a book that ‘needed’ to be shared with others on their path of spiritual awakening. The rest, as they say, is history!

Q: How much do you love what you do?

JG:  I absolutely love the writing, and I have come to enjoy the editing process too. It is hard when I am unable to write (e.g. due to brain fog and cognitive dysfunction, and/or extreme fatigue, both due to a long-standing health issue) as I find the act of writing to be a transformative process, and one which nourishes my spirit.
My characters feel ‘real’, and I get a high from meeting them and discovering how they develop – and also from creating an inspiring or magical storyline or piece of imagery ‘from nothing’.
The proofreading and publishing are aspects of the indie author journey that I am not quite so keen on, but the results are always worthwhile, and I am always proud with what we have achieved.

Q: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?

RD – Trust yourself and do not believe everything the majority tell you.  It may be how they want you to be, not how is best for you.
JG: It may not feel like it right now, but you always get what you need, and every challenge is just another task on your own soul quest. You will be able to handle it – always!

Q: Tell us how your business inspires your clients!

JG: We have had loads of positive feedback from people whom we call our ‘ideal readers’ – those already on their path of awakening, or who are ready to begin. Some say the books carry their own healing energy (we do infuse the paperbacks with extra lovelight!) and others say they feel they have received a healing from reading the novels. Some readers wax lyrical about the subtle messages woven through the trilogy, advising us that it reminds them of truths they already knew but had forgotten; while other readers enthuse over the descriptions and the parallel world(s) we have created, and would like to live there among the lovelight! Of those who ‘get’ our work, we have had nothing but high praise. :)

Q: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?

JG: The answers to every question are always available. They may come when you are still and quiet and consciously tuning in to your higher wisdom, or through a song lyric or a phrase you hear someone speak. They may come in dreams – as dialogue, or visual signs, or metaphors – or you may just have a feeling of rightness when you consider a particular option for a decision you need to make. Maybe someone will tell you what you need to hear, or suddenly offer the help you have been waiting for.
Signs, messages, and synchronicities are all around, helping you to move forward on your path – as long as you are ‘open to receive’. There are numerous instances in our Lazuli Portals trilogy where dreams, quiet awareness, and synchronicities have helped the characters choose what is best for them.

Q: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?

RD: From the characters of the books, who lead us.
JG: I agree! I need the inspirational messages from the trilogy as much as anyone.

Q: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?

JG: Currently, I am recharging my energies following the long road to publishing The Exile’s Blade. For now, we are attending mind-body-spirit fairs and connecting with new and existing readers face-to-face. We are both members of my local Writers’ Circle, too, so continue to write short fiction and poetry to read at meetings. We blog, too, and are active on social media, with inspiration and other feelgood posts. Will there be another novel from The Lazuli Portals? We don’t know yet … we’ll see where we are guided!
