Q: How were you inspired to start your business?
I’ve always been involved with art and ended up being an art teacher as I never thought I was ‘good enough’ to be an artist. I also discovered healing practices during my mid twenties and loved the energy work. So I wanted to find a way of combining my two loves as I saw just how much more intense healing using art was. I tried training with Art therapy, but found it too clinical…and I didn’t feel the drive to work with really unwell people. Then I discovered Intentional Creativity and here was a way of combining both these things in such a lovely way, and completing my training with Shiloh Sophia…the business just started itself as I started doing classes here in Darwin Australia.
Q: How much do you love what you do?
I really love the feeling of working with women and seeing their delight in playing and rediscovering their creative force. I feel so in flow in a class, that we often forget time!
Q: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?
I would probably tell myself to keep taking the challenges to the canvas, keep that creative spark going through all emotions.
Q: Tell us how your business inspires your customers!
My customers always tell me how excited they are to come in and to find out that they could create. They are inspired by finding that they can create with awareness and get more in touch with their intuitive side. We always have a writing process with the painting where messages come through for them. They are inspired by the acceptance and safe groups space that I create.
With my Soul Paintings, people find a tangible way to connect to their own spiritual guidance.
Q: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?
I guess I want my work not to be so much about solving a problem as offering a different way to look at challenges. Most of the women I work with are doing their everyday thing, going through what they should be doing ( work, family, kids) and they put themselves last, so that they are feeling lost , sometimes resentful, stressed. They can feel that there is more for them, but can’t see how to get to it. Intentional Creativity gives conscious access to yourself…so you can start consciously co creating your life into what you want. The creative process I use takes you to look at what are your existing beliefs, ideas and then look at them from a different perspective and change them. Because we are using something physical( the canvas) it means that the healing that takes place becomes anchored and what has been healed doesn’t stay stuck in the body ( we are really good at storing feelings in the body). It is also a process that is gentle, in that only what is ready to be healed surfaces. I know that with one lady I’ve worked with, she’s rediscovered her sense of self and that she was the only one standing in her way. Although the process in a workshop is finite, the process is not. You can do this at home with minimal supplies and use it to keep coming back to connecting to yourself, each time that connection to the wild, untamed self gets stronger.
Q: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?
I’m always learning new things. I love discovering new art techniques and go to art workshops. I find it really inspirational to keep in with my training group and out Guild, where I see what amazing things people are doing in sharing Intentional Creativity.
Q: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?
I’m super excited to be working on an online program that will hopefully be out by the end of March. Also about to set up a 3month Creative Jump Start one on one program.
