It is a delight to feature Faye Malone from Feet Up With Faye based at the Wessex Health Network in Christchurch, Dorset who I personally recommend.
Q: How were you inspired to start your business?
A: To begin with it was just a lovely idea I had in my head that I would dream about morning, noon and night. The idea finally started to become a reality when I was working at Christchurch Harbour Spa- I remember being in my treatment room massaging my clients and thinking up business names, treatments I would offer etc.… It was at that moment that I suddenly realized that I could do this, and nothing could stop me. It was an incredible feeling!
Q: How much do you love what you do?
A: I feel incredibly lucky to love what I do! I have always held a great passion for the beauty industry but since becoming self- employed my love for the industry has flourished and I honestly cannot imagine doing anything else.
Q: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?
A: I have travelled a fair amount over the years and in 2014 I moved to New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa. When I first arrived my brother and his girlfriend were there, and I moved in with them and was loving every minute. When they returned to the UK a few months later I have never felt more alone and struggled to find a job and a place to live- at times I was close to giving up! Looking back on that time in my life now I would tell my younger self to not be afraid to ask for help, we all struggle sometimes and asking for help is not a weakness, it shows great courage and strength. I just wish 21-year-old Faye knew that at the time!
Q: Tell us how your business inspires your customers!
A: In January 2018 I became a Tropic Ambassador, which is a wonderful addition to my business. My passion for the products and my commitment to having a good skin care routine I believe has inspired many of my clients to follow in my footsteps. By showing great knowledge and being able to give clients a step by step guide to the perfect skin care routine, I have ultimately been able to change their mindset and get people thinking about why and how they should look after their skin. I couldn’t ask for anything more!
Q: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?
A: I always try to treat my clients ‘holistically,’ so even though they may come to me with back problems for example, I will ask them various questions to try and find out why they are suffering and give them home care advice that they can take away with them and work through in their own time. You often find that just physically treating the problem isn’t enough and many clients benefit from extra guidance. Working in the industry I do you often become a ‘safe place’ for many people and they often choose to confide in you, so we need to be open to helping people not just physically but emotionally too.
Q: Please give us an inspirational tip or quote to inspire others!
A: What I would say is always try to stay positive. When you put a positive twist even on the worst situations it changes your mindset and allows you to work through the situation in a healthier way.
Q: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?
A: I often find inspiration from the people around me. Since starting my business journey, I have met some incredible women who are also self- employed and are always more than happy to lend an ear when I feel like I need support. The one other person that fills me with inspiration every single day is my Mum- she is my best friend and the strongest person I know- without her I would not be where I am today!
Q: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?
A: My immediate business goal is to continue growing my client base and providing my clients with the highest standard possible. In the future I would love to develop my massage skills even further and learn some new styles and techniques- the beauty industry is constantly evolving, and I believe we need to change and grow with it.
