Q: How were you inspired to start your business?

I’ve played the harp from childhood starting my lessons at the age of 8. I grew up in a loving home and family, with my Great Aunt teaching me harp. I’ve always loved playing the harp for friends and relatives and for a number of years I played for events and I’ve taught harp lessons. Alongside my passion for music I have held a keen interest in healing and spirituality, also from a young age.
My inspiration to combine the two really came about during my mother’s cancer journey. I played the harp for her when she was really poorly and I felt it really helped us. My mother had a beautiful positive death at home.
So then I came across a harp therapy course which helped me to develop my creative harping and prepared me to play at the bedside. Around the same time I was also training as a birth doula which led to me providing the harp music at births over the next few years.
This has been a wonderful journey so far, it’s a real honour to be able to bring healing harp music into the sacred transitions. I’m finding now as my children are growing up I have much more time on my hands to sit and improvise and play creatively, so I’ve started recording my music, meaning I can serve many more clients remotely, with personalised healing harp meditations, and backing tracks for therapists to use to augment and support their own healing modality. I can see this appealing to a range of modalities such as reiki, reflexology, hypnotherapy, yoga and meditation.
Q: How much do you love what you do?
It’s indescribable. Playing the harp intuitively is as much for myself as for others. It’s something I keep returning to when I need to find my strength and it’s so uplifting. It’s very much tapping into the divine, opening our hearts and reminding us of our true nature. I love that I bring this soothing gift to others and share with them on their journeys.
Q: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?
Speak your truth – it’s so easy to clam up when you feel some kind of threat, whether it is witnessing a loved one go through illness and pain, or crossing a threshold yourself. Commit to feeling how you feel with conscious awareness, rather than dodging or denying your present reality. Emotions are your guide and by really taking time to feel them you can go from being stuck and suffering to freedom and happiness.
Q: Tell us how your business inspires your clients!
For individuals the harp music brings immense comfort and strength, connection and peace, helping to transcend suffering.
I love collaborating, and providing tracks for my fellow doulas, healers and therapists. The harp music inspires them to be in the zone as they create and heal.
For example a recent client, Anna Loza has said ‘This is so beautiful!! I can see this being a wonderful meditation companion for a long time to come, uplifting, strengthening and supporting me as I move forward in life. This is a full journey — the music really speaks to me, and I am fully transported into my strength, hope and love. Thank you so much!! This is an incredible experience.’
Q: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?
As a birth and death doula it’s often about helping them to release fear and let go of all that no longer serves them. So often when we get a headache or a cold or other health niggle in day to day life we try to deny it, we think it’s not ok, to not be ok today. We battle with our bodies. We suppress how we feel and often it’s in order to get things done. When considering the bigger threshold transitions of giving birth, and dying then, we automatically fear the pain that we assume will accompany us. As the doula it’s all about sharing the space with the clients, being with them at ease in these times. The harp music helps us to let go of negative thoughts and brings our awareness into the present. When we are able to just simply be present moment to moment, breathing and sensing our surroundings, feel respected and supported by our caregivers, and go deeper and deeper into any sensations, we can feel comfortable, calm, powerful and content.
Q: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?
Doing the work one-to-one with clients is most inspirational for my healing music. As well as looking at language, poems, songs and narrative. I also love to play my harp with musician friends just for fun too, which often provides me with a new musical idea. Connecting with like minded people helps keep my creativity in flow.
Q: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?
Soulful harp is my newest offering. I’m really excited to be producing Healing Harp Meditations, therapeutic harp music, both for personal use and original Royalty free backing tracks for therapists and healers to use in their businesses. I do bespoke creations uniquely developed according to individual requirements, and I’m also working on a range of pre-recorded tracks available for instant download. Alongside this, I’m excited to be continuing to work in person with one-to-one clients as a doula with the harp in the sacred transitions of birth and death.
