I’m so happy to be able to introduce you to a very inspiring lady. Susan Hartley of Yoginis Yoga Training who specialises in children’s wellbeing and mental health. Susan is here to talk to us about making happy, healthy, content children!
Question: Welcome to Inspired To Inspire blog Susan! Firstly, tell us, what geographic area do you cover with your work?
Answer: UK, Isle of man and anywhere English can be understood as we have an online training platform that can be accessed by anywhere in the world.
Question: That’s great to hear that you can help people online around the world. Now, can you tell us, how were you inspired to start your business?
Answer: Through my own yoga and meditation practice I became aware of the benefits and inspired me to train to be a yoga teacher. I trained in children’s yoga and adopted the usual model of teaching yoga to children through storytelling, as I saw how children and the human brain learns a new skill, I knew there must be an easier method to help children learn the techniques and exercises, take ownership of their own learning and use them to develop self-regulation. Later my business partner and I developed a simple model that anyone can use to teach in their school/setting including SEND based on learning a new skill method and have helped lots of children support their own mental health and wellbeing. To reach as many educators as possible all Yoginis Yoga courses can be accessed online and have been accredited by CIMSPA, afPE and are CPD certified.
Question: So good to hear that you have developed a simple method that can help so many. How much do you love what you do?
Answer: I have been blessed watching and hearing about so many children becoming happy within themselves, managing their own emotions and becoming their best selves. It’s even impacted the adults who deliver the sessions and changed their lives, what’s not to love about helping others.
Question: If you could go back to a point in your life when you were facing a challenge, what inspirational advice would you give yourself?
Answer: I remind myself that whatever is happening now is not my future. Self-awareness is the key that can unlock your potential and empower you by giving control over your choices and decisions. This is what helped me develop my resilience in difficult circumstances.
Question: Love that inspiring advice. Now please tell us how your business inspires your customers?
Answer: I was once asked by a child if I could go to his home and teach his parents how to practise yoga, this inspired us to produce the Let’s go yoginis book so parents can be part of their children’s learning and we have received some joyful photographs. Some of the Yoginis coaches have been inspired to train as yoga teachers, others have noticed an improvement in their own mental health and an overall impact on their working environment. Others have used their training to face and deal with personal challenges, with many reports how it has helped the children in their care with self-esteem and confidence in their abilities.
Question: Knowing you aren’t alone in something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel means a lot when you are feeling low. What is a typical problem someone you work with might be facing and how do you guide them back into the light?
Answer: This modern world is quickly evolving and many individuals feel overwhelmed and stressed during transition through Yoginis free resources such as daily affirmations to help keep a positive mindset, quick brain hacks to help cope with stress and anxiety we promote and spread kindness through the Yoginis promise. Train to teach or take the kindness challenge and use the Let’s go Yoginis book to start off a self help journey.
Question: Love this. I’m a big fan of affirmations and post positive affirmations daily on my social media accounts. Please give us an inspirational tip or quote to inspire others!
Answer: Daily acts of kindness not only change your neuro pathways to become happy and positive, the receiver of your kind act gets the same benefit. It’s a win-win making kindness to self and others a daily habit. Read the blog on kindness to learn more about the benefits.
Question: As people we are always evolving and learning things on our life journey. Where do you find inspiration?
Answer: My inspirations come through my connections with other professionals in the field of neuroscience, biomechanics and education. Having the mind of a curious child observing what is around me and being in the present moment is an attribute of mindfulness I try to maintain. I listen to podcasts, watch documentaries, and take courses to keep up with the latest developments and techniques backed by research for people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Question: Businesses are always evolving too… what are you inspired to do next?
Answer: Yoginis training are always looking for ways to reach a wider audience and have been in communication with interested parties from overseas, we’re collaborating with other training providers who want their members to access our training and in talks with Sports Active Partnerships to get the programmes into more communities, schools and early years setting. I am presenting a workshop at Nanny Uk in 2023, at other local and national events. The next event is online with Spark Early Years at the end of January.
We were approached in 2020 to develop the Gateway yoga training to support young people (11-25) to empower themselves to take ownership of their own mental health and wellbeing backed by research from Sterling University and develop further levels of training. The research is finally in and we’re waiting to hear the results of two years of hard work funded by Sports England and in collaboration with Street Games UK. This will then be launched in March 2023 on International Women’s day.
Question: That is amazing. Onwards and upwards I am so glad to hear all these positive things for your business and those you can reach and help. Definitely sending out waves of positivity into the world.
